Dallas GFI Electrical Outlets Installation
You might have heard the term GFI outlet, but do you actually know what it is? How it works? This is something that you might want to consider if your home has them. You want to know exactly what they are able to do for you and the home that you have. Here is some information that you can use to find out more about these outlets being used in homes throughout the country.
GFCI stands for a ground fault circuit interrupter. It protects those using it from electrical shock when they plug items into it. This is different than a fuse. A fuse is there to protect the home from catching on fire from the wires placed throughout the home. The wires within a fuse are able to heat up and cause whatever it touches to burn when it becomes exposed. The fuse is there to protect the wire from catching on fire and snuff it out before it is able to start.
When looking at the GFCI outlet, you will notice two holes at the top and one at the bottom. One hole to the side is slightly larger than the other one. The left is known as neutral and has the larger slot. The right is know as the hot. The one below both of these is the ground. The electricity flows from the hot to the neutral when it is being used. If there is an imbalance with these then the breaker will trip.
If you’re inside and you’re using your drill but water sprays on you, then the drill is wet – this can be fatal. It can be fatal if the electricity from the wire goes through you and then to ground. It would go through hot to ground to you. Neutral is missed in this instance. You’re the neutral part which is why it flows through you, which is also why you should keep electrical items away from water.
GFCI outlets are able to be installed to protect your home and yourself. Certified and professional Dallas electricians are able to install them correctly so that this does not happen when you’re using the outlet. Of course, you should still stay away from water when you’re drilling or doing anything else that requires an electrical item.
This can be a time to obtain the right information and ensure that all of your outlets are updated and ready to go. You want to ensure that you have what you need, when you need it. It shouldn’t be a matter of why should I do this? You want to upgrade your electrical if it is old – this can be safer for your home and the entire family living inside the home, as well. If you’d like to have GFI electrical outlets put throughout your home, consider speaking with a Dallas electrician.
